Gloaming Picnic & Art Auction @ Old Clarkesville Cemetery

Saturday, May 21, 2022 – 5:00 pm til 7:30 pm
Old Clarkesville Cemetery

Join supporters of the Old Clarkesville Cemetery on May 21 for what promises to be a memorable evening to raise funds for the preservation and restoration of the historic landmark.
Historic Clarkesville Cemetery Preservation, Inc. is hosting the Gloaming Picnic & Art Auction at the Old Clarkesville Cemetery starting at 5 p.m., with several highlights built into the evening’s itinerary.
HCCP, Inc. is also pleased to announce Hillside Memorial Chapel & Gardens will be the presenting sponsor for this event.

“We are delighted to once again partner with Brent Tolbert and Hillside Memorial Chapel & Gardens to underwrite this event,” said E. Lane Gresham, chair of HCCP, Inc. “Because of this generous support, all proceeds from ticket sales and the art auction will go toward our ongoing restoration and preservation work.”
Sweet Breads of Demorest will provide a picnic supper and dessert. The ticket price also includes two beer and/or wine tickets.
Also planned is a live auction to showcase local artists. This year’s theme echoes the Clarkesville tagline — ‘We call it home.’ The majority of the artists are affiliated with Hemlock Gallery located in downtown Clarkesville.

The event’s title, Gloaming Picnic, is a nod to Jarvis Van Buren and his wife Eliza, who are buried in the cemetery. The couple built the historic Gloaming Cottage, located near the cemetery.
Jarvis Van Buren was an architect/builder and horticulturist who migrated from New York to Habersham County in 1838. He is credited with designing and building several historic homes and buildings in the area.

The event will also feature a performance by local musicians. Ample parking is available at Grace-Calvary Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Wilson and Green streets just around the corner from the cemetery. Ticket prices are $100 per person, on sale in advance after April 15.
For more information visit the website or find the event on Facebook.

AUGUST 2022

Drowsy Chaperone

The Drowsy Chaperone @ Habersham Community Theater

Thursday August 4, 2022- Sunday August 7, 2022
1370 Washington Street, Clarkesville, GA

In collaboration with Habersham Central High School, HCT will present The Drowsy Chaperone, a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life, with two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, and an intoxicated chaperone. This is the stuff of legends… or at least an evening of madcap delight. This production will be shown at the HCHS theater and will not be part of our season ticket offering (separate tickets will be needed to attend this event).
